The municipality of Brienz
The typical Swiss alpine chalet village of Brienz lies on the northern shore of Lake Brienz, some 15 km from Interlaken. The Zentralbahn (Central Railway) from Interlaken to Lucerne stops at Brienz station twice an hour. In summer, passenger ships also operate a regular service between Brienz and Interlaken.
The municipality of Brienz covers a surface area of 4800 hectares. The village of Brienz lies at an altitude of approx. 570 m, with the highest point at 2927 m and the lowest at 566 m above sea level.

Brienz has a resident population of around 3,000.


Season


High season:
  • For Brienz, the summer months from June to September and over the Christmas/New Year period.
  • For Axalp, the winter months from December to March.
Low season:
  • Discounted spring, autumn and winter offers in Brienz.
  • Axalp is not just a ski resort; it is also a popular area for idyllic mountain hikes in summer.


Resort taxes


Guests staying in Brienz are liable to resort taxes. After filling out the registration form you will receive a Guest Card for the Brienz-Axalp holiday region, which entitles you to a range of discounts. Brienz resort tax rates
The rates for the resort tax and cantonal accommodation tax per night are as follows:
  • CHF 3.00 for adults
  • CHF 1.00 for children aged 6 to 16

The resort tax helps to finance the tourism offer. Paying the resort tax entitles the visitor to obtain a Guest Card, which in turn offers a range of discounts. A list is available from the Brienz Tourist Information Office.
