Starting at the Bärenplatz, you follow the Abendberg signposts. A wide, shady path leads rapidly up the forested ridge to Abendberg (1133m), with spectacular views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. You now follow the signposts to Saxeten (1103 m). The lovely trail runs parallel to the mountain ridge to the tiny, tucked-away mountain village of Saxeten in the valley of the same name, surrounded by impressive peaks and rugged mountain slopes (approx.1½ hrs).
If your legs are ready for more, you can follow the signposts and hike through the Sytiwald forest down to Wilderswil. Anyone intending to return by postbus should be certain to check the departure times.
