The Alpine ibex is ever-present in the Interlaken region. But this hasn't always been so. In the 19th century, the Alpine ibex became totally eradicated from Switzerland.
The game park was built in 1914 for the purpose of reintroducing the species.
In 1915 the first breeding pair arrived; the first kids were born in 1917/18. The colony grew very quickly and the first release into the wild was able to take place a few years later. The Interlaken-Harder Alpine Game Park is situated directly adjacent to the valley station of the Harder-Kulm cableway. It holds Alpine ibex in several enclosures, plus a marmot colony.

All of the enclosures are freely accessible.
