"Rockabilly meets 80s Synth-Pop meets Alternative meets the Beatles"
The power duo "The Santa Monicas" was launched in spring 2017 in Zurich and has since played concerts throughout Switzerland and Europe, recorded an EP and shot two video clips. Martin "The Rocket" Solo, who studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston and has sung with legendary Zurich disco band Stinky Miller, handles acoustic guitars and bass - in the form of an Octave pedal over a bass amp - on The Santa Monicas. Ali "The Iron Clown" Salvioni, who earned his musical
earned his musical spurs in Cuba, plays percussion/drums and conjures whimsical sounds from his twisted vintage synths. With this instrumentation, "The Santa Monicas" create a unique sound aesthetic that oscillates between rockabilly, alternative, 80s pop and the Beatles. The central element of the music of "The Santa Monicas" are the two voices: As different as they may be in timbre and color, The Rocket and Iron Clown harmonize like the Beatles once did in May. In their idiosyncratic and melodic songs, the two tell stories about bleeding hearts, black and white cowboys and
Spanish toothbrushes. So the band is "a must" for all those who can't resist good old rock & roll seasoned with a dash of lovingly melancholic surrealism.
