Heiligenschwendi is the climatic spa above Lake Thun. Here, you will take deep breaths of fresh air and enjoy the fascinating view over the lake and the Bernese Alps. The place is the perfect starting point for hikes through fir forests and over lush meadows. The calm and the altitude are wonderful prerequisites for switching off, relaxing and forgetting your everyday routine.
Exciting circular tours such as the Eulenweg (Owl Trail) or the Spycherweg (Granary Trail) both start and finish in Heiligenschwendi and take you to new worlds. The “royal stage” of the popular Heart Route from Thun to Langental takes you up to Heiligenschwendi on your e-bike. After your climb, you will be rewarded with a wonderful view of the Alps. In the winter, the family skiing area with children's lift promises lots of snow fun right in the village.
Just west of Thun but close by, you will discover a beautiful recreation area. Go on a hike or a bike tour on one of the many routes. Along the Aare or over meadows and fields, you will discover small villages, picturesque churches and beautiful farms. Those looking for peace and quiet and friends of nature will find calm at Moraine Lake. There are four such lakes once formed by the Aare glacier just waiting to be discovered. On a bike tour through the Aare, Gürbetal and Stockental valleys you cycle through pretty villages with mountain peaks either side, visit the beautiful church of Amsoldingen and will constantly catch glimpses of the alpine panorama.
Enjoy a special culinary journey on your visit to this region. Swap stories with the locals when you eat at a traditional country inn. Try exquisite products with intense aromas directly on a farm or at a dairy. Enjoy the quiet on your walk across hills that were formed by glaciers. Take to the heights with a hike or a trip by cable car to the Stockhorn. You will be rewarded with an extensive view of the Bernese Oberland that also reveals the lowlands if visibility is good.
