Summer feeling on the deep blue lake

Nestled among gentle hills and vineyards, Spiez is said to be Europe's most beautiful bay. Walk down to it or take the fun little train that takes you down from Spiez to the shore. Here you can enjoy a range of water sports and excursions on the water. A trip on a passenger ferry or the historical paddle steamer Blümlisalp will tempt you to enjoy an extended trip on the deep blue Lake Thun. At Spiez lido, you will have some amazing fun in the water or can start out for a trip in a canoe. Or alternatively try your luck as the captain of a remote-controlled model boat. In the Beach Arena Spiez you can play beach soccer and volleyball as well as other ball sports in the sand. Enjoy guaranteed fun in a game of pétanque, the French version of the Italian boccia.

 

The first Open standard crazy golf course in Switzerland with a putting green is the perfect place to test your skills over 18 holes. And against breathtaking scenery, you will enjoy rock and rhythm at the Seaside Festival. Take a walk along the lake shore to Faulensee. Once you've arrived, you can cool off by jumping into the water at the lido Spiez or just chill in the sun on a raft. And you could well catch yourself rubbing your eyes in disbelief in Faulensee when you see the Sealander. The Sealander is a roadworthy caravan trailer that’s also a modern electric boat.

Discovering the area on foot or on wheels

There are plenty of different ways to discover the area around Spiez. You can manage the climbs easily on an e-bike. Once you've arrived at the top, you will be rewarded with an impressive view. A circular route takes you to the special places in and around Spiez. Part of this route is the lakeside path to Faulensee.

You will find out everything about a year in the life of a vintner on the short hike through the Spiez vineyard. Einigen “The Path” takes you back through history and heritage. Here you will find out about the history of the church, the Gwattlischenmoos nature reserve and the archaeological finds from the Bronze Age. The recently renovated jetty in Einigen invites you to stay awhile and is also the starting point of the path.

Museums, culture and good food

In the Spiez Museum of Local History and Viticulture, you will feel you have been transported back to the time around 1700 and will also find out all about winegrowing. Make sure you take the opportunity to taste the local wine in Spiez! Spiez Castle towers over the bay and can be seen for miles. Cross the extensive grounds to the 1000-year-old castle church. Certainly well worth your while is the tour through the historical rooms. Children will enjoy themselves in the castle as genuine knights. People of all ages will be amazed in the toy museum which has an excellent collection of toys over 100 years old. No doubt you have heard about the Miracle of Bern? At the World Cup in 1954, the German football team, coached by the legendary Sepp Herberger, actually stayed in Spiez. Different sculptures on the lido will remind you of the historic event.
