Visit the castle with original interior and extensive grounds

Standing in splendid grounds, peerless Hünegg Castle towers over Lake Thun. A stroll through the grounds brings you to the castle café and the entrance. The museum within the castle boasts an original interior largely unchanged since 1900. From the castle terrace, the views of Lake Thun and the Bernese Alps are dreamlike.

The moment you step inside Hünegg Castle, you are transported to another era. The magnificent structure was commissioned from 1861 to 1863 by Baron Albert von Parpart of Prussia and his wife Adelheid von Bonstetten, who modelled the design on Renaissance castles of the Loire in France. Later, in 1900, Gustav Lemke-Schuckert and his wife renovated the interior in the art nouveau style. The entire interior has remained unchanged ever since, providing a strong insight into life in bygone days.

Explore the grounds

Stroll through the beautifully landscaped grounds with exotic redwoods, Lebanon cedars and multi-stemmed cypresses. See the animals of the castle park or visit the miniature house and historical viewing pavilion. The circular bench in the pavilion promises wonderful views, and the extensive grounds are open year-round. To find out more about the castle and its grounds, you can also register for a 75-minute guided tour.

From the castle café to the basement

How about a cup of our own coffee, or a local wine in the castle café? Relax and listen to the tinkling of the fountain and as you stroll through the castle grounds. Why not organise an event at Hünegg Castle? The basement and the Kultur-Pavillon can be rented to host personal occasions such as birthday celebrations, wedding parties and cultural events.

Photo opportunity: Castle terrace

The views of the Bernese Alps and Lake Thun from the castle terrace are magnificent. With luck, the impressive "Blüemlisalp" steamer will sound its horn as it passes by.

Not really a castle, but worth going
This was one of the best “castle” I have visited in Switzerland it is not exactly a midieval castle, but the furnishings and intricate work in the rooms make it much worth stopping for. The grounds are pretty as well.

A must-see for Art Nouveau connoisseurs
If you are into Art Nouveau and interiors - this Manor House (it is not a castle) is a must. Lovingly maintained - time has stood still - it will give you a realistic and undiluted opportunity to sample and enjoy the life style during that period. The staff were all friendly, well informed and helpful. The grounds are in English park style - a little oasis close to Lake Thun

Fascinating castle, with a welath of artefacts on display.
Schloss Hünneg is really excellent. Untouched for around 100 years and with a vast array of artefacts on display, all in context. Good descriptions, including in English for the most part. The wood carving is particularly impressive. A beautiful location, easily accessible by public transport (Buses 21 and 25 from Thun, or a ferry on the lake). A nice cafe, with a basic selection of light snacks and drinks. Pretty gardens. Other reviewers have suggested an hour, but we had no difficulty in taking three hours to look around. Staff were very welcoming and guests are allowed to take photographs (no flash). Overall, some echoes of The Hill House (Glasgow, Scotland), Blackwell (Bowness-on-Windermere, England) and - to a lesser extent - Castle Drogo (Devon, England).

    rather kitschy
located on a little hillside overlooking the lake, the panorama is maybe the nicest here. the castle is rather kitschy, especially compared to older and nicer constructions along the like like the castle Oberhofen. but anyway, touring around the lake, it is worth a stop and a stroll through the park.

Beautiful gardens, the castle was closed due a wedding
Schloss Hünneg is located in a little town called Hilterfingen, in the lakeside of Thunersee, a lake in Switzerland. It was built in 19th Century in a Renaissance style. I walked around the gardens, which are beautiful. In fact, from here you can see beautiful views of the castle and surroundings. Pitifully, I could not enter in the castle (August-2018) due to a wedding. Next time. Nice.

    Enchanting Castle
The castle is beautifully restored and furnished down to the last details. Located on a slight hill with sweeping views of Lake Thun, you can only imagine living here and seeing these views everyday! I have been to a lot of castles but this one stands out due to the amount of gorgeous furniture and accessories on display. Be sure to check out the views from the various rooms. The exterior is quite charming too - everything you would want in a castle!

Fairy tale castle on Lake Thun!
We did not purchase tickets in advance. We had no problem getting in. We were given a card in English to help us navigate. This was probably the fanciest castle that we toured while in Europe. I mean come on - it had a two story bathroom! There is also a cafe but it was not yet open when we were there.

    Castle with original interior
This castle has remarkable views of lake Brienz and also has furnishings from the last occupant of the castle. It is situated on lovely wooded ground and has a pretty garden. There is a café. English cards are available for each room.

Very Nice Family Home From The Past
This "castle" features an Interesting collection of personal effects from a wealthy family. Worth an hour or so to visit, many unique pieces of furnishings, architectural gem of a property, a small garden. Entry fee, easily accessible by local bus from Thun. May be difficult for mobility-challenged to enjoy.

    For a Rainy Day.
Should you find yourself in this location on a rainy day Schloss Hunegg is prefect for a visit.. That's not to say it isn't good on a dry day! A beautiful Schloss in a wonderful location with views across Lake Thun. Interesting to discover the interior of this castle. There is a charge for the car park but it will not 'break the bank' so don't let this put you off. Give it a go - whatever the weather.

Charming and quaint castle with a million dollar view!
Instead of being at the lake level, you walk up to this castle sitting on the hill. It has a beautiful terrace that offers many beautiful views to the lake. The garden and foundtains are open to the public free of charge. There is fee parking below, however, on the day we visited it would not accept any coins, so we parked for free. You can really take in the high moutains and green lake water from the castle. Some spots are perfect for picture taking.

    A must see
This castle is a must see sightseeing. Amazing to walk through the various rooms as if the people living there would still be present and just left, so you can admire their work. The view from each room over the lake and the Alps is stunning, the guy that built this castle really thought about many details. Should you not see it, you will definitely miss something.
