The starting point of the hike, the Rosenlaui Glacier Gorge, is conveniently reached by post bus. However, this only runs in the summer months. A visit to the Rosenlaui Glacier Gorge is definitely worth it. The imposing waterfalls are almost within reach. The sound of the water, the tangible force, and the varied rock formations are fascinating. Especially at high temperatures in summer, a detour into the glacier gorge is also a welcome cooling down. The Rosenlaui Glacier Gorge is even part of the UNESCO World Natural Heritage Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch. After visiting the glacier gorge - or bypassing it - the more strenuous part of the hike begins. Steeply it goes up to the Engelhorn Hut. Those who have arrived there have definitely earned a refreshment. By the way: The Engelhörner were only developed in the 19th century. And that by the British exceptional mountaineer Gertrude Bell. Even today, the sharply jagged limestone peaks are a popular destination for climbers. But back to the hike: The descent leads via a path secured with ropes to the Alp Gross Rychenbach. This part is partly steep and only recommended for experienced hikers. Especially exposed sections are mitigated with ropes. The path then continues on a narrow trail passing rock blocks. These originate from a rockslide in 1792. Later, approximately at the height of Hobalm, hikers enjoy the impressive view of Wellhorn and Wetterhorn. And a look into the valley is especially worthwhile there. Flower-rich meadows delight hiking fans’ hearts in spring and summer. From Hobalm, it now goes over easy terrain on gravel roads and pass roads to the mountain guesthouse Kaltenbrunnen-Säge. From there, the post bus takes hikers back to Meiringen.
