best season

This refreshing hike is perfect for a nice summer's day. You will get a few drops of spray from the Simmen Falls in your face as you walk up to the Siebenbrunnen waterfall, the source of the river Simme.

Water has always been the defining element in the Simmental. Its numerous springs and lakes are regarded as places of reinvigoration and tranquillity, or simply as beautiful destinations for excursions. On the Rezliberg, above Lenk, the "Siebenbrunnen" waterfall shoots out of rocks at the foot of a mighty limestone wall. This multi-stream water jet, also called "Bi de Sibe Brünne", is the source of the Simme and gives the Simmental its name. Johann Gottfried Ebel wrote: "There are not precisely seven, but far more springs that gush out from the bare wall face under a cross of green bushes, foaming white and in such abundance that, right at the foot of the rock, they form a considerable stream which is called the Siebne or Simme from which the long valley took its name." In summer, up to 2,800 litres of water flow over the rocks every second. Not far beyond that, all this water coalesces to form the Simmen Falls which thunders down into the valley in several cascades. A beautiful hiking trail leads from the Hotel Simmenfälle all the way back to the "Siebenbrunnen" waterfall.

The hiking trail, which leads directly along the Simmen Falls to the Barbara Bridge is unfortunately closed currently until further notice. The ascent and descent path are presently the same (observe the signs).
