A winter hiking paradise around the small mountain farming village of Habkern, at the foot of the Hohgant and Sieben Hengste peaks, where eagles and lynx dwell. This area, also the source of the Emme River, offers a wealth of impressive views.
The winter hiking trail starts at the post office in the small holiday resort of Habkern and leads at first up some steep steps. After a short breather, the trail continues towards Säge, with plenty of opportunities to stop for refreshments along the way before passing Habkern ski lift. Shortly before you reach Säge, the trail takes a right turn into the forest after the municipal maintenance depot. On this natural trail section, which offers many great photo opportunities, the tranquillity of the forest is interrupted only by the gurgling Traubach stream. After crossing the wooden bridge over the stream, a short ascent is rewarded with breathtaking views of Habkern. The trail continues through the hamlet of Bohlseite, past old, picturesque houses and finally over the Traubach bridge back to the starting point.
