The hike takes you from the valley station of the Wiriehorn cableways, up to lush alpine meadows and the Wakker Prize-winning village of Diemtigen.
On a varied hike from Riedli up to Chilchflue and on to the Tschuggen alp you can breathe in the refreshing alpine air. The trail leads mostly through shady mountain forests before you reach the impressive high plateau. Once you reach the top, you will pass several alpine farms and notice that many cows and cattle make their home here during the summer months. In combination with your hike, book the > Alpine cheese hike Tschuggen offer (in German) and you will be awaited by the Wiedmer family with various types of delicious alpine cheese for tasting.
With a view of the Simmental and the moorland of the Aegelsee, you now descend to Diemtigbergli and the village of Diemtigen. It's worth taking a look at the houses: the village is dominated by buildings from the second half of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century, so look out for the magnificent houses and the Romanesque church in the middle of the village.
Attractive circular hike:
If you would like to extend the alpine hike to a suitable circular tour and do without the PostBus, you can hike along the valley hiking trail from the Oey-Diemtigen railway station to the Wiriehorn valley station (Zwischenflüh) beforehand. The descent from Diemtigen village to Oey-Diemtigen railway station is also easily doable on foot, taking around 30 minutes. The extended circular hike takes about 5.5 hours.
