You leave Meiringen heading towards Willigen, where the path turns off the road and leads upwards past houses. In Schwendi, it is worth taking the variant via the Reichenbach Falls (closed at editorial deadline due to a landslide). This is where Sherlock Holmes’ great adversary Professor Moriarty once met his death. From the waterfall, the path climbs steeply through the forest to Zwirgi and then on to Kaltenbrunnensäge. Soon the Gschwantenmaad plateau is reached, offering a well-deserved “breather.” In this flat section, you can leisurely let your eyes wander. There is much to see: in addition to the sea of flowers around you, there are mountains and glaciers whose beauty has captivated generations of nature lovers before us. Near the Rosenlaui restaurant, a detour to a small waterfall is possible. A few minutes’ walk uphill further on leads you past the entrance to the Rosenlaui Gorge. A visit is especially worthwhile in spring during the snowmelt. Just before the Schwarzwaldalp, you need to gather your strength again as the path climbs steeply once more. Staying on the path on this side of the Reichenbach, you ascend to another beautiful plateau. Passing the houses of Alpiglen and many alpine roses, you finally reach the Grosse Scheidegg.
