The hike along Lake Thun repeatedly elicits gasps of awe from walkers. An early start is worthwhile; the morning light over the lake is breathtaking.

Lake Thun and Spiez as well as Faulensee with their beautiful bays shape this hiking day. A highlight, besides the very nicely arranged lakeside path through various park and protected natural landscapes, is the scenic path over Spiezberg with views over the vineyards down to the Spiez bay, dominated by the impressive castle ensemble through which you walk right in the middle. The route here follows the attractive Spiez circular trail, which leads as a beach, cultural, high-altitude, and vineyard path around the town. In the east, the distinctive pyramid of the Niesen dominates, and in the south and east above the lake, the Bernese High Alps. Also famous is the beach path between Spiez and Faulensee, where figures of the German football team recall the "Miracle of Bern" in 1954, when Germany was quartered in Spiez's "Belvédère" and unexpectedly became world champion. Part of the hike around Spiez follows the Jakobsweg (Way of St. James).
