Fun gondola ride

Your trip to First begins in Grindelwald,  from where a 6-seater gondola will carry you to the top in 25 minutes. Float towards the ridge secure in your gondola. During the ride you’re guaranteed a breathtaking view of the mountain landscape, so sit back and enjoy the dreamlike view. When you arrive at 2168 m above sea level, there are plenty of ways to make the most of your day.

Hikes a plenty

First is the perfect destination for keen hikers and fans of climbing. There are lots of hiking trails to explore, including a wonderful one-hour hiking route from First to Bachalpsee lake. This blue gem sits at 2265 m above sea level and is surrounded by a moorland landscape of national importance, through which the Mühlebach meanders. This alpine lake has to be seen with your own eyes, no photo can adequately capture its charm. You can continue this trail over the Faulhorn to the Schynige Platte. During this hike, you’ll enjoy repeated views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, making it one of the most spectacular panoramic tours in the Bernese Oberland.

With First Flyer, you'll race down the 800-m-long steel cable from First to Schreckfeld at a top speed of 84 km/h, seated and well-secured, and powered by gravity. First Glider or the Mountain Carts await to take you to Bort. You decide how to continue your adventure.

First Glider

With First Glider you’ll fly through the air like an eagle. The glider takes its four passengers from Schreckfeld to First and back.

Mountain Cart and Trotti-Bike Scooters

Mountain Cart is a mixture of go-kart and toboggan, whisking you from Schreckfeld to Bort on a 3-km-long unpaved path. Once you reach Bort, your Trotti-Bike scooter awaits for a rapid descent into the valley. On the 4.5-km-long route, you’ll skilfully steer the bikes along the winding road. Enjoy a view of the mountains and meadows along the way, until you arrive in Grindelwald.

First Cliff Walk presented by Tissot

Step onto the scenic First Cliff Walk presented by Tissot lookout platform, near the mountain restaurant’s terrace. The platform juts 45 m out over the abyss, so thrills are guaranteed. This circular path leads you along the steep rock face at staggering heights back to Berggasthaus First. Enjoy a safe view of the Eiger’s north face, the alpine pastures, the waters, the waterfall and the other impressive mountains.

Alpine playground

Kids will be in their element too, with a wealth of adventures to choose from. The Alpine playground at Bort station has see-saws, swings, a mountain stream and an area where the little ones can practice their climbing and balancing skills. The play equipment blends perfectly into the mountain landscape. Pure fun awaits!

Marmot Trail

The marmots’ whistled warnings can be heard again and again in the Alps, but it's difficult to catch a glimpse of these animals up close. If you and your kids would like to learn more about these alpine rodents, then try the Marmot Educational Trail. The path takes you from First to Schilt and on to the barbecue area in Oberläger. The perfect place to regain your strength, and if you're lucky, a marmot will make an appearance.

Berggasthaus First

Berggasthaus First sits next to the Firstbahn summit station, at 2200 m above sea level. The Berggasthaus, or mountain house, is the perfect spot to relax and enjoy the sun. The terrace has a unique view of the upper Grindelwald glacier, the Wetterhorn, the Schreckhorn, the Kleine Scheidegg, the Männlichen and Grindelwald. It also offers tasty dishes and accommodation.
