Stage 4 of the Lakes Route leads along the shores of Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, past the spectacular Giessbach waterfalls to Meiringen at the end of this stage.

This route section starts at Spiez railway station. On this bicycle tour, you will enjoy almost constant views of shimmering Lake Thun, then of the turquoise waters of Lake Brienz and the magnificent Bernese Oberland mountain scenery. This is picture-postcard perfection, as clichéd as that may seem. The pretty villages with their striking church spires and geranium-adorned windows only serve to enhance the idyll. The first part of the tour runs alongside the Lake Thun shoreline to Interlaken. From here, a scenic path along the water's edge leads you to Iseltwald and up to the Giessbach Falls. With a mighty roar, the water plunges down several rocky steps into Lake Brienz. It's worth stopping here for a bite to eat at the restaurant. A flat section with stunning views of the village of Hasliberg and the Susten massif leads you to Meiringen, the end point of this section of the Lakes Route.
