Hiking Trail

The ascent from the valley to the Wiriehorn mountain hotel begins quite inconspicuously. The higher you go, the more the panorama of the Diemtigtal unfolds to you.

The easy hike leads you first to the village of Entschwil, where magnificent witnesses of Simmental carpentry await you, built in the period from 1700 to today. It is worthwhile to linger a bit and have a look around the village. After a section through the forest, a wonderful panoramic view of the middle and rear Diemtigtal with its scattered settlements and mountains opens up to you.

How do I get back to the starting point after the hike?
After a refreshment on the sun terrace of the Berghotel Wiriehorn, the comfortable and panoramic ride with the chair lift down to the valley is just the thing. The push scooter route also leads from the mountain station directly down into the valley and provides variety and a fresh breeze. Those who prefer to walk downhill: The hike is also well walkable in reverse order.

Directions

The hiking trail starts at the parking lot of the Wiriehorn cable cars and leads in a few zigzag curves up to the vacation center Wiriehorn, where you can have your first coffee in the restaurant Wirieblick. Afterwards you follow the flat road with little traffic to Entschwil. Take the first turn to the right, past the carpenter's workshop Meyer, to the nearby forest and follow the road a little further until the forest road turns off to the right in a sharp bend up the mountain in the direction of Nüegg/Bergstation Wiriehorn. Follow it, first through shady forest, in the second part over open alpine terrain (but with panoramic view) to the alp Röschteschwend. The path now becomes a hiking trail that will soon take you to the Wiriehorn mountain hotel.

Safety guidelines

On the last section of the trail between Alp Röschteschwend and Berghotel Wiriehorn, downhill bikers are on the hiking trail heading to the starting point of the downhill trail. We ask for mutual consideration.

Equipment

Clothing appropriate to the weather, food and drinks for the road. If you want to barbecue: cervelat, pocket knife and lighter

Recommendation

In a bend in the path, shortly before the Wiriehorn mountain station, lies the Röschteschwend fireplace. If you have packed your Cervelat, it is worthwhile to stop here for a barbecue in a beautiful panoramic location. Dessert is served on the terrace of the Wiriehorn mountain hotel.

Directions

A6 Bern direction Zweisimmen, 1 km after the Simmenfluhtunnel turn left direction Diemtigtal. Follow the Diemtigtalstrasse into the valley for 11 km to the Riedli valley station.

At the valley station Riedli you will find about 100 paid parking spaces.

Public transit

By train to Oey-Diemtigen station (Spiez–Zweisimmen line). Continue by post bus to the stop «Zwischenflüh, Talstation Wiriehorn».
