Historic hotel and cogwheel railway, an alpine playground and a Swiss Flower Panorama Trail as well as a botanical alpine garden are the highlights, along with the spectacular view of the famous Bernese trio Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, when you finally reach the much-visited Schynige Platte. The alpine garden, open from mid-June to the end of October, should definitely not be missed. Here the botanical heart delights on the kilometer-long loop: From edelweiss through black gentian to paradise lily, around 650 other species can be admired in the steep terrain. That is about two thirds of the entire Alpine flora. In addition, there are artificially created areas such as the original rock field or the limestone scree slope where very specific species thrive. Schynige Platte – or shining plate – is the name of the place because the schist rock face intensely reflects light when wet and then appears like a glowing plate.
