Winter hiking trail Justistal

The Justistal, whose entrance is well marked by the distinctive Niederhorn, is considered a snow-secure winter paradise. It was named after the monk Justus, who once spread the gospel at Lake Thun with his companion Beatus. The prepared winter hiking trail starts from Grön and runs parallel to the cross-country ski trail, with a slight ascent along the Grönbach, which flows into Lake Thun in Merligen. Glittering water in the form of ice formations; a new splendor accompanies the hikers every winter. It continues past Spycherberg, where the legendary «Chästeilet» takes place every autumn, during which the produced cheeses are distributed by lottery according to the cows' milk yield. From there, the impressive, somewhat mystical valley floor of the Justistal opens up, with views to the Hindersberg alpine hut. At the very back: the Sichle, a mountain pass that appears like a sickle from afar and leads west of the Sieben Hengste to Eriz in the Zulgtal. The return of this easy and secluded winter hike follows the same path back to the starting point.
