- khan0628July 14, 2019 at 3:33 PMNice Local FoodInterlaken is overrun with tourist traps so it was really nice to have some good local food. Considering this isn't a tourist trap, our waitress wasn't fully fluent in English, so come prepared to do some deciphering of the seasonal menu! They do have one regular menu in English though. Additionally, if you're planning on walking, be prepared to hike and bring the right shoes! We didn't because we decided to come here spontaneously and it was difficult to hike up as beginners! The prices are a bit high but the food was great and fresh. Had the farmer beef with garlic butter, potatoes, and steamed veggies and it was great!More
- UrbanWariorOctober 23, 2018 at 4:14 PMWhat a pleasureAfter hiking down from Niederhorn this small typical Swiss style restaurant was well worth the stop. We had 'wild' with all the extras... Service was excellent and the prices are excellent. An enjoyable afternoon and I will 100% return.More
- BJC1960August 11, 2018 at 6:50 PMOff The Beaten Path--Great FoodGathered with friends for an evening meal after a day's work. We are staying near Interlaken, but the friends had eating at this store before so we drove up the mountain for 25 minutes to get the our meal. Beatenberg is a little out of the way but at about 1850m you have great views of the lake and valley. The store is a bit of a mom & pop(simple setting, seemed to be family run) with about seating for 30 inside the building and another 10 outside on picnic tables. From outside you have an outstanding view of the other side of the expansive valley. All locals the night we attended. We were the only non-locals. Wait staff realized there were English speakers so without prompting they brought us an English menu. My wife and I had the same meal, a daily special that consisted of a great seasonal green salad, 3 incredibly tender pork cutlets in a paprika sauce, with some herb mashed potatoes. Meal was amazing! We shared a warm piece of apricot pie with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. Again equally amazing. Outside had a small play area for kids where inside the fence were 3 very large, friendly rabbits just for the petting. Prices were WAY more reasonable than down in Interlaken. Downside-the bus line from Interlaken stops about a 1-1.5 miles from the restaurant, so you'll have a bit of an uphill walk to get there if you in on public transport. If you are driving there is plenty of free parking(unusual in the city)More

- Dan_SwitzerlanSeptember 16, 2016 at 1:37 PMWonderfull sights and good foodA romantic place for the nice wooden house with the small restaurant on ground floor and a large room seating 70 persons in the upper floor. We had some dry meet as starter and a fondue which was very tasty. I still wonder how they manage to deliver the food for our group of 60 at the same time having so few personnel. Fabulous!More

- SylviaF418July 6, 2016 at 5:52 PMAuthentically swissif you are looking for ' fine dining' , this is not for you! If you are looking for honest, wholesome, tasteful fare, cooked with care and served with a smile - do try this delightful restaurant. You travel up a steep, narrow road( hoping not to meet any oncoming cars). But the views over Lake Thun are spectacular. The place is quirky -what I took to be a small children's play area was inhabited by some four or more pet rabbits! Bar stools have pants on them!! The menu is limited - mainly variations of Swiss Roeshti- but there is also a specials board. The food is well cooked and tasty. Service is good - staff speak no English and we speak no Swiss-German - but with smiles all round, we sorted the order out. So- enjoy the experience-we did!More

- holidayapartments-chOctober 5, 2015 at 4:51 PMOur Favorite Restaurant in the Region!!We absolutely love this restaurant! For us the Riedboden has the best combination of: 1. Delicious "home cooked" Swiss meals (like Grandma used to make) 2. They use lots of local products 3. Very affordable prices for Switzerland - (absolute value for money) 4. Generous portions (take only a half-portion if you want dessert!) 5. Quick and friendly service (even when they are busy, which they usually are) 6. Unbeatable setting with the most beautiful views 7. Owners are very attentive and personally come to ask how we enjoyed the meal 8. Delicious desserts (be careful, they are a meal to themselves!) 9. Children friendly with an outside swingset and rabbits to pet 10. Spotlessly clean WC's with handicap access, baby changing corner 11. Beautiful decorations 12. Very busy among locals (always a good sign) We lived in Interlaken for years and love to eat out. We tried most restaurants in the area. However, for us, the 25 minute drive up to Beatenberg and the Riedboden was always more than worth the effort and ranks #1 on our list of places to eat in the entire region. When family or friends come to visit, the Riedboden is always our first choice to take them out. Without a doubt, we will definitely be back!! Chris, Ursula and DaisyMore
- kazg56July 4, 2015 at 7:52 PMNot very attentiveWe ate at this restaurant as it was recommended to us by a local. The food was average, very little English spoken by staff and infested by flies on the terrace! Would not go back.More
- 46hansmJuly 17, 2014 at 4:05 PMwe felt ashamed to have brought our American guests hereWe arrived for a late lunch at about 2 o'clock and I went into the restaurant and asked whether they were still serving lunch. The waitress said yes and she would be out to us on the Terrace very shortly. We were four elderly adults and a grandchild of nearly 2 years old whowas very hungry. We chose our food from the specials boards on display, waited 20 minutes and were then told by the same and now very apologetic waitress that the kitchen had closed because they were too busy. We left and shall not go back.More
