Activities for all ages with magnificent views of Interlaken and Lake Thun

Just a few minutes’ walk from Interlaken West station, the nostalgic cable car takes you up the Heimwehfluh. The mountain offers a wide range of adventurous activities for young and old alike, from a sledging run to a playground.

The nostalgic cable car, which is over 100 years old, takes you from Interlaken up the Heimwehfluh in only four minutes. The base station is easy and quick to reach. The local bus (line 104) stops at the station and the Interlaken West station is only a few minutes’ walk away. Several car parks are available in the immediate vicinity. The short drive, with its views over Lake Thun, the town of Interlaken and the surrounding villages is unforgettable and well worth undertaking. The locals affectionately refer to the flood plain between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz as the “Bödeli”. It formed over the course of many centuries after the retreat of the Aare Glacier at the end of the last ice age.

Worst attraction in Interlaken - do not waste your time and money!
Terrible! "Self-service" sign tells you to get onto the funicular, no staff anywhere to be seen. They shout over a tannoy for you to close the door yourself and then you are transported to the top without a driver. When you get to the top you have to pay CHF 30.00 per person. Everything broken. Children's play area is literally a death trap. Looking at past reviews the model railway has been broken for 5+ years. Toboggan run is unbelievably dangerous.. Do not waste your money here

Great Stop for Dinner with the best view in the city!!
Doesn't look like much from the street, but what an amazing place!! Great tram ride up the mountain, then a gorgeous panoramic view of Interlaken. Take in the view, then sit and enjoy a great meal. Very friendly staff - great food - a place for the kids. This place has it all. It needs to move up the list of places to go in Interlaken!!!

Worst experience , its a trap
Its a big trap. They purposely do not sell tickets at the base of the train. First you are asked to board the train and go up. Then even if the slide is not working , they will charge 25 CHF for the 2 minute train ride. Will not recommend to visit

    Attention! Death trap! Don’t go!!!!
My father and son had a horrible accident on the sledge run. There was no one to instruct them how it works and the break did not work. They were ejected at high speed in the first curve. They both could be dead!!! My little son had only minor scratches and contusions but my dad is at the hospital with major injuries. I googled this place and found out that they had several accidents over the years and that someone even died. But because of the money and the many tourists coming to Interlaken it’s still open!

    Fun family activity
This was much better than a 3 star rating if you are looking for a family activity. Have a beer and some nice food (burger, lamb burger, goulash soup were all excellent and I am a burger snob) and let the kids run amuck in fun environment with views and nice weather. The sledge thing down was pretty fun and they let me take our 21 month toddler on it, she went down twice and loved it. If you are young and not encumbered by kids then opt for parasailing or canyoning, this place may be boring for you.

    Hidden Gem!!
We visit Heimwehfluh each time we are in Interlaken and are always surprised that it isn't busier than it is. The traditional wooden Funicular may be shorter than the one at Harder Kulm but it is a lot more charming! The views of both lakes from the terrace are stunning and there are panoramic views of Interlaken too. The staff there are friendly and welcoming and the food is of good quality. There is also plenty to do to keep younger members of the family entertained, in the play area (away from the terrace area - for those who want a bit of peace and quiet!). There is also a toboggan run which is good fun for all ages. I would highly recommend taking the short walk from Interlaken West train station to visit it. P.S. If you don't fancy the toboggan run then you could always either return by funicular or take a relaxing stroll through the forest (great when you want to escape the heat of the sun).

Broken Disappointed old and everything is broken
We came here 2 and a half years ago and it was lovely. Things where a little old but they where fun and safe!!! We just returned July 4th things are broken the go carts nearly ran my foot over as the peddle for the break was broken. It scared our child who couldn’t stop I had to grab him home scaring him and all of us! The trampoline door can’t close so it’s unsafe! The train is Expo is broken!! The tram ride down is broken! There is no care being taken for for place! People and there cars just arrived what if our child was running around two cars just pitched up! And didn’t drive slowly they drove in as if driving into a carpark! Im sorry to say this but you should be ashamed at what you are providing people!

    Read this review before visiting.
I normally never post bad reviews. My rule of thumb has been to praise above average service and experiences when traveling. But I feel I have a duty to others, especially those with young children, to advise against visiting so-called attractions that seem to have forgotten the foundational rules for running a successful tourism business. In summary: Don't waste your money here. Why? It's expensive, considering what you get, which, from today's visit, is not much at all. The small play area is shabby, almost derelict. The kid's bumper cars have also seen better days, but require 1 Franc to be operated and don't run for very long at all. The interior of the building is interesting in a perverse way - no upgrades or refurbishments seem to have occurred since the late 1970s. Indeed, the entire facility is sorely in need of investment and extra staffing (to that point, basic staff hospitality training - I'll get to that soon). We didn't eat there, but from the other reviews, (I will always check the reviews in the future) I'm glad we didn't. I could possibly overlook all of this if the toboggan was worth the effort. But it wasn't. Main points: 1. The ride was altogether too short. It was over before it began. 2. The track and the cars looked like a health and safety nightmare. The cars are faded yellow plastic, clearly aged and don't seem to offer what I would expect in terms of minimum protections and failsafes. I'm not sure how it would pass the usually comprehensive and strict Swiss inspection regime. 2a. Operational safety: My 6-year-old son has ASD (Autism). He is also below the age to ride alone as outlined in Heimwehfluh advertising. That was ok - we'd feel better having him ride with one of us, per the brochure photo. It was the main reason for us choosing to visit. But the contemptuous, rude little man at the top, who seemed more interested in talking to his female companion in the ticket hut, told me could only ride alone. When I told him that my son is 6, has autism and by their own rules, must be accompanied by an adult, he proceeded to imply I was lying about his age. He then told me he would take my son down. I wasn't too sure about this, so I asked if the man knew anything about autism. With almost melodramatic impatience he quickly dismissed my understandable request for assurances regarding my son's special needs. I lost what little reserve of tolerance I had left for this person's lack of concern and said that if I couldn't take my son down with me, we would leave walk down. He eventually deferred to his manager(?), who had earlier had told me it was ok to ride together with my boy, and thankfully, he allowed us to ride together. We rode down. (See #1). I've now read some of the other many negative reviews and find myself in agreement. This place operates on a shoestring with the sole purpose of extracting as much money from customers as possible. The person collecting tickets for the toboggan should be fired or moved to a role where he's not customer-facing. If he has such contempt for the people paying his meal ticket, he should find and job elsewhere. Clearly, someone owed a favour to his parents. The positive reviews don't even remotely reflect our experience and I suspect them to be shills.

    Great view of Interlaken
Lets be straight, we didnt pay for the funicular ride, too expensive and the staff running the place need to do something they like or be more friendly. So we decided to hike our way up. 10-15 min in the woods and you are at the top, with a wonderfull view of the lakes
