The Chüematte Trail at Niederhorn is one of the most beautiful marked snowshoe routes in the canton of Bern. From the mid-station Vorsass to the Alp Chüematte, the snowshoer experiences an untouched and open alpine forest landscape. Accompanying this is the repeatedly breathtaking panorama of the Bernese Alps.

From the mid-station Vorsass, head northeastward up a snow-covered forest path towards Flösch. After a short forest section, open terrain follows which offers a wonderful view over Lake Thun. From Flösch, the marked snowshoe trail roughly follows the snow-covered summer hiking trail through untouched, open forest to the Alp Unterburgfeld. The Alpine hut in a magnificent setting with Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau invites you to take a break.

Then you ascend a short distance on the winter hiking trail towards Oberburgfeld. Shortly before the alpine huts, the trail turns eastwards towards Chüematte. The following section leads once again through open forest and a unique alpine landscape.

Soon the Alp Chüematte is reached. In nice weather, the Chüematte café is open on weekends. The descent to Beatenberg/Waldegg now takes place without snowshoes along the official winter hiking trail. Left and right of the groomed winter trail, however, there are numerous opportunities to make further tracks in the deep snow.
