Listen to music and gaze in wonder at 300 years of Bernese clock making

At the Museum of Clocks and Mechanical Musical Instruments (MUMM for short), you can enjoy a variety of sounds made by mechanical musical instruments. The museum also gives an insight into 300 years of Bernese clock making.

In the historic rooms of the Wichterheer-Gut in Oberhofen on Lake Thun, you will encounter fascinating exhibition pieces, ranging from clocks and timepieces to mechanical musical instruments,. Most of the timepieces on display come from Swiss workshops and factories and were made in a variety of different time periods. The exhibition focuses on clock making in the canton of Bern. The Osthaus is also home to the Stiftung Kurt Matter collection of mechanical musical instruments. You can visit this exhibition by prior arrangement. Take a journey through the last five centuries of creative craftsmanship in the company of an expert guide, who will bring these antique instruments to life as you pass through the collection.

    Brilliant museum and staff
An excellent museum, thoroughly interesting with staff who went out of their way to help. My heart sank when I heard that unaccompanied visits are not permitted; reluctantly I joined a tour and was very pleasantly surprised. Very informative, had the opportunity of hearing and seeing the musical instruments work. Really made the museum come alive. As I had joined the tour late the guide later took me around on my own to see the bits I had missed and even stayed late beyond closing time. Wow, I have never experienced that anywhere else!

    Very nice museum
Amazing experience: watches from 17 century and different music instruments. Plan to come to the opening (14 o'clock), because the guided tour takes a while.

    Charming
Everything that reviewers neil2015, Omer L and Fortunat M wrote goes for me too. My guide and the gentleman behind the counter were very warm and personable. I went on a nice day weather wise, so I was the only one in there. I got a private tour! I got to crank some of the mechanical musical instruments. I seem to remember that the tour lasted over an hour and I took a walk through the place again after the tour.

Fascinating Musical Instrument and clock musesum
We were so pleased we found and managed to visit this excellent small but well run Museum, mostly staffed by volunteers. A lovely look at an enormous range of clocks and musical instruments, in particular the growth and development, of both static and mobile devices, and organs, pianola's etc. Our personal guide was very friendly and informative, and it was a thoroughly enjoyable and educational visit.

    Amazing experience
A small museum filled with quite a variety of watches and music boxes from different times and places. A lovely old couple (we later discovered works voluntarily) has welcomed us, and gave us a devoted guidance through the museum - including demonstrations, explanations and background for every exhibit.

Not the biggest Clock and Watch Museum in Switerland, but the most charming one, and at the most stunning setting
Situated in a beutifull old lakefront country estate built in the 13th & 14th Century this small museum (only by docent let tours of approx 90 minutes) offers an excellent introduction to the history of timekeeping from the 17th century to the present (Clocksa and Watches). Also has an excellent collection of historic mechanical music devices, from Carousell organs, player pianos, beggar organs etc to traditional Swiss Music Boxes.
