Travel a century-old stretch of track while marvelling at panoramic mountain views

Experience an incredibly scenic trip aboard the RegioExpress Lötschberger. The majestic mountain route traces the Lötschberg north ramp via Kandersteg and Goppenstein before terminating at Brig. Along the way, the train crosses viaducts and passes through impressive helical tunnels. You will also be mesmerised by the views of the peaks of the Bernese Oberland and the deep blue Lake Thun as the Rhone Valley draws ever closer.

The starting point for the round trip is Spiez, where you board the RegioExpress and take your  time finding a seat. The stretch of track is one of the most important constructions in the history of Swiss rail. Engineered structures like the imposing Kander viaduct, the horseshoe curves around the Felsburg and the unique Bietschtal bridge at Raron will linger in your mind. While the exciting and convivial train journey is a special experience in its own right, the highlight remains the incredible landscape that unfolds during the round trip. Arriving in Brig, you can spend your time exploring Valais as you wish.

Tip: GoldenPass Panoramic

You can combine the experience with a travel on the GoldenPass Line. From Spiez, travel via Kandersteg to Brig as described above. The route from Brig then continues through the Rhone Valley to Montreux on the banks of Lake Geneva. Passing cows in lush green meadows, the GoldenPass Panoramic line carries on to Gstaad and Zweisimmen before you change back to the RegioExpress Lötschberger to head back to the starting point at Spiez.
