Steep climb to splendid panorama

From the Saxeten postbus terminal, follow the small road into the valley and turn uphill after a few minutes. On a well-developed mountain path, you quickly gain altitude alternately through shady forest areas and over fragrant mountain meadows. Passing the huts of Mittelberg, you reach the Rengglipass, the transition from the Saxetbach into the Suldtal. The distinctive spikes of the Dreispitz crown this original little valley enchantingly.
From the pass summit, the path to the Morgenberghorn branches off to the north. The ascent is partly very steep. After an exposed ridge, some equally exposed sections follow on the western flank of the horn. Wire cables assist with crossing. Nevertheless, these key points require absolute sure-footedness and fearlessness of heights. After a final ascent on a grassy path, you see the standard with Swiss and Bernese coats of arms on the summit – and you are immediately captivated by the overwhelming panoramic view. To the north, the view roams over Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, over Niederhorn, Hohgant, and the Brienzer Rothorn range, while to the south, the massive rock formations of the Schwalmere and behind them the Bernese high Alps chain fascinate.
The descent begins very steep. On a narrow, partly exposed path, you pass rock ledges to the Brunni hut. Along the northern flank of the Morgenberghorn, you proceed on a partly marshy, sometimes somewhat exposed path initially practically level. In wet weather or after several days of rain, this section should be avoided and instead the descent to Aeschiried (see route 19) chosen. From Leissigbärgli, you reach Därligen on Lake Thun through forest and over meadows.
