Windsurfing on Lake Thun – feel the power of the wind

Glide across the water and enjoy the mountain panorama

The wind conditions are right, so you pack your windsurfing equipment and set off on your Lake Thun adventure. With your surfboard under your feet, you glide across the lake over the waves. You cruise effortlessly to and fro in front of the Niesen, enjoying the views of the nature that surrounds you. Lake Thun is a real Mecca for windsurfers.

Windsurfing with your friends

It’s a beautiful July day. The sky is a deep blue and is adorned by a few fluffy clouds. You and your friends get ready to spend an afternoon on Lake Thun. Shortly after midday, the waves make it clear that there’s a westerly wind, which is highly favoured by windsurfers. On the spur of the moment, you and your friends decide to try a taster lesson in windsurfing. After a brief theoretical introduction, you stand on the shore and, moving hesitantly, try to keep your balance on your windsurfing board. When necessary, you hold on to the mast for support. Moments later, the wind in your sail pulls you a few metres out into the lake. Your heart beats faster and you can’t wait to glide even faster across the water.

Celebrate your progress and enjoy the panorama

After a bit of practice, you come to know the correct hand movements and are able to use the wind to change direction. You feel joy as you race across Lake Thun, which is glistening in the sunlight. You feel the gusts of wind in your hair and the cool water flows through the gaps between your toes. You gaze at the Alps and enjoy the imposing views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau and the mountains that surround them.

Feel the joy

Your friends soon learn how to stand up on the board and together with them you zip across the waves and through the spray. If your turn goes wrong or you begin to lose your balance on the board, you simply jump into the refreshing, clear waters of Lake Thun. The coolness of the water spurs you on and you and your friends will become fairly proficient windsurfers after just one day on the water. The feeling of freedom and serenity on the water is something you’ll never forget.

Back to the shore

The westerly wind eases off as the evening approaches and so you let the last gusts push you towards the shore to spare you the effort of paddling. You bring your action-packed summer day to a relaxing close with a well-earned drink. You and your friends will rave about your windsurfing adventure on Lake Thun for a long time to come. It’s more than likely that you’ll soon be planning your next windsurfing day. Find out about the various providers on Lake Thun.
