A day trip unlike any other: Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe

An excursion to Europe’s highest railway station is an absolute highlight. Delve into the fascinating world of snow, ice and glaciers on the Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe. Admire the spectacular mountain panorama on the train ride from Interlaken Ost via Grindelwald or Lauterbrunnen, which takes a little under two hours. The tricable gondola Eiger Express takes you from the Grindelwald Terminal straight to Eigergletscher in 15 minutes, getting you to the Jungfraujoch 47 minutes faster than before. The trip is particularly spectacular during the winter months. The railway line runs along the foot of the renowned Three Peaks – the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau – and through the natural idyll of the Jungfrau Region. The spectacular midway stop at Eismeer station will surprise you with its stunning views through a viewing window set into the rock face. A wide variety of experiences await you when you reach the Jungfraujoch.

Awe-inspiring moments on the Sphinx platform

Take in the imposing, year-round ice of the mighty Aletsch glacier, part of the UNESCO Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch World Heritage Site, from the Sphinx Observation Deck. A high-speed lift takes you to the observatory of an international research station. You’ll be whisked up 108 m in only 25 seconds. When you reach the viewing platform, you’ll be able to view the glacier in all its majesty. In good weather, the sun’s rays illuminate the world of snow and ice, making it glisten magically.

Wander through the ice palace

The tour through the magical frosty ice palace is a real highlight. As you explore, you’ll discover niches housing a variety of art works by extremely dextrous ice artists. Eagles, penguins and bears look as if they had just turned to ice. The ice corridor was created by mountain guides with pickaxes and saws in the 1930s. Get ready to be enchanted by the magical corridors and halls.

Alpine Sensation – a journey through time

The Sphinx Hall and the Ice Palace are connected by a 250 m long corridor. A chill runs down your back when you walk into the corridor, which is not solely due to the chilly temperatures. Thirty commemorative plaques bear witness to the sacrifices made by the miners during the construction of the railway to the Jungfraujoch. Modern travelators convey you in comfort past an impressive picture gallery.  These pictures show you the how the Jungfrau Railway began. Emotional musical sounds accompany you as you wander through the experience. At the end of the corridor, you will discover radiant edelweisses and a huge snow globe – perfect for another souvenir photo.
