The mountain panorama on the Schilthorn is worth the cable car trip in winter or summer. From Birg station you can go on the adventurous Thrill Walk or relax on the Allmendhubel. Due to the new construction of the aerial cableway, the Birg – Schilthorn route and the 360°–Restaurant Piz Gloria will not be in operation from 14 October 2024 to mid-March 2025.
The cable car takes you from Stechelberg to the summit of the Schilthorn, at 2970 m above sea level, in 30 minutes. Once at the top, you can enjoy a spectacular view of the UNESCO World Heritage Jungfrau-Aletsch with the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau as well as 200 other mountain peaks from the Skyline View Platform. On a clear day, you can even see the Mont Blanc range and the Black Forest. There are three lounges on the Schilthorn ridge from which you can enjoy the view in peace and quiet.
Visit the interactive exhibition “Bond World” and learn more about how the film “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” was made. You can watch the key scenes shot on the Schilthorn, with George Lazenby as Agent 007, on a big screen in the Cinema, or you can head to the “Walk of Fame”, where the actors of the legendary film immortalised themselves by way of handprints.
Enjoy a satisfying brunch, a delicious lunch or a snack in the slowly revolving 360° Piz Gloria restaurant. An unforgettable experience – admire the 360° panorama during your meal as the restaurant turns completely on its axis every 45 minutes. Delicious regional dishes taste even better with such a wonderful view. Looking for something quick to satisfy your hunger? The Skyline Take Away offers hot and cold dishes as well as snacks. You can also hire this space for an event for up to 150 people.
It’s well worth making a stop at Birg station at 2677 m above sea level. Go on the Skyline Walk or the Thrill Walk at around 1000 m above the village of Mürren. Enjoy the panorama on the Skyline Walk and stand on a glass platform and look down. For the brave, the Thrill Walk offers a unique experience. Just below the sun terrace is a 200-m-long rock trail that runs along the vertical walls of the imposing rock massif. Why not enjoy a meal in the Bistro Birg and enjoy the wonderful view from its large sun terrace? In winter, Birg is the centre of the skiing region and in summer, it’s an ideal starting point for your hike in the fascinating world of the mountains.
Did you know that the Schilthorn is the highest skiing region in the Bernese Oberland? Snowboard or ski down the steepest slope or have fun in the Snowpark. From winter hikes to sledge safaris, everything is possible at the Schilthorn in winter. Learn to ski or snowboard at the Mürren-Schilthorn Ski School. The Schilthorn region is a hiking paradise in summer. Discover the Flower Trail on the Allmendhubel or venture onto the imposing "Via Ferrata» on the Mürrenfluh.
Take time out to admire nature on the Allmendhubel, 1907 m above sea level and situated close to the Schilthorn. Mürren’s nearest mountain can be reached in four minutes by funicular railway and is a wonderful excursion destination for families and nature lovers. Stop for a bite to eat in the rustic Panorama Restaurant Allmendhubel and admire the view of the famous Three Peaks (Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau). While you’re sitting in the restaurant, your children can let off steam in the Flower Park adventure playground. The playground at the Allmendhubel is a fantasy world of enormous alpine flowers, grasses and oversized insects. Fancy finding out more about the flowers of the mountains? Take the Flower Trail and discover over 150 mountain flower species such as edelweiss, alpine roses and gentians. Enjoy an experience for all the senses in the clear mountain air.
